What should I take with me when I collect the car from Autovia?

To collect your car the lead driver should present a Valid driver's license, Passport or National Identity Card, Credit or debit card in the lead driver's name, Home and local (hotel, villa etc) address and a Booking confirmation email. Any other requirements at collection will be clearly explained in your booking confirmation email.

All of our rentals with SUPPLIER include a full to full fuel policy. You'll pick the car up with a full tank and be asked to leave a small deposit for fuel when you collect the car. The deposit is refunded when you return the car with a full tank.

Can I cancel my booking with Autovia if I change my mind?

Yes, you can cancel your booking with a full refund anytime up until 48 hours before you collect the car.

Third party liability insurance
Third party liability insurance provides protection in case you cause an accident. If you do, it could injure or kill other people (for instance your passengers, people in other vehicles or pedestrians), or damage their property (their vehicle, house or possessions, for example). Since they need to be covered, you could be responsible the cost of any damage, or treating any injuries or financially covering loss of earnings, as well as the third party's legal fees and court costs.

Third party liability is subject to an excess, which means you would have to pay the first part of any claim (normally between £800 to £1,700, depending on the car, the deal and the country). When you insure your excess , you'll be refunded for all of the excess amount you have to pay. Or if you take out Premium Cover, your excess amount is often reduced .

Damage Liability

CDW provides insurance protection for damage in a similar way the insurance you usually have on your personal vehicle does. Theft liability cover (theft protection)

Theft liability covers the amount due if the rental car is stolen. Theft liability usually includes an excess amount, which means you would be required to pay the first part of an insurance claim (usually between £900 to £2,750, depending on the car, the country and the deal.

If you choose to insure your excess with us, however, you will be reimbursed for the of the excess amount you pay (See essential cover). Or with Premium Cover your excess can be reduced.

When you collect you rental you'll be required to hold a small deposit for fuel on a credit card when you collect the hire car. Ensure that you fill the rental up and return it full and there's no additional fees for fuel.

You might see full to empty policies on some other websites that seem to be offering better deals. Always check the small print for full to empty rentals as usually the admin and refuelling charges included with full to empty fuel policies always make it much more expensive than full to full fuel policies.

For rentals outside of the US and Canada there's almost always an excess held on your card* - just like on your own car in the UK. The excess on rental cars can be high. It's normally in the region of £1,200 to £2,500. If you fail to cover the excess amount you could be liable to pay for any damage up to the value of the excess . All of the car rentals we offer include free cancellation. This means that you can cancel your booking and receive a refund anytime until 48 hours before you collect the car.

If you have purchased the Essential Cover product to insure the car hire excess, you're able to cancel this and receive a refund anytime up until the booking start time( as printed on your rental confirmation email).

We process all refunds in less than 24 hours. If you decide to cancel the rental, the money will be back in your account within 7 days.

How to rent a car with Autovia including Unlimited Mileage

We offer unlimited and limited mileage rental.

Limited mileage rentals are often a cheaper option than unlimited. For limited mileage rentals, the mileage limit is always clearly displayed. If you decide to book a rental with limited mileage, you'll be charged an additional fee if you go above the daily allowance. The total mileage allowance for the rental is calculated as (the number of rental days multiplied by the daily allowance). You do not have to remain within the daily limit on every day, provided that the total miles used during the rental doesn't exceed the number of days multiplied by the daily allowance.

When you pick up the car, you will be required to leave a security deposit on a credit card or debit card. Deposits vary significantly dependent on the size of the vehicle and the excess . Car rental Security deposits can vary between £100 and £2,000.

When you reserve a rental with Premium Cover included, you can reduce the deposit to cover only fuel (usually less than £100), this is fully refunded when the vehicle is dropped off with a full tank.

Hiring a car with Autovia without an Excess Held on Your Credit Card

The excess is the total amount you'd be required to pay if the car is written off, severely damaged or stolen. The excess on rental cars can be high. It's often between £1,000 to £2,100. If the car is returned damaged, or it's stolen or written off, you will be required to pay some or all of the excess.

When you pick up the car, the insurance excess is held on your credit card as something called a 'pre authorised' transaction. This means that the amount isn't taken from your card as a regular payment, it's held as a pending payment until you drop off the vehicle. You won't normally pay currency charges on credit cards for pre authorised payments, so provided the vehicle is returned in the same condition as when it was collected, the excess amount is fully refunded to your card without anything further to pay.

If you plan to pay by debit card, the insurance excess amount will be taken from your account and fully refunded when the car is returned. If you plan to use a debit card on collection, as the excess amount can be high, we recommend to either buy Premium Cover when you book or to buy top up cover at the collection desk.
