When collecting the vehicle, the lead driver must present the following:
- Valid driver's license
(You must have had your license for at least 1 year. Those with a license from outside the EU or whose license has characters which are not in the Roman Alphabet will also require an International Driver's License)
- Passport or National Identity Card
- Credit or debit card in the lead driver's name (Visa, Mastercard/Maestro only)
- Booking confirmation email
When collecting your vehicle you will be required to leave a security deposit
on your payment card.

Note – Releasing your deposit
Goldcar provide the following information about the time taken for your deposit to be made available again:
If the amount is deposited with a credit card, the blocking period will depend on your bank company (the average tends to be 10 days, but can be up to a maximum of 30 days from the start of the rental period). If the deposit is paid with a debit card, the maximum time for a refund will be 15 days (from the date on which the vehicle is returned), although the majority of unblocks are carried out in less than 10 days.
If you have taken out their "Super Relax Cover" the size of the deposit is significantly reduced.
Full to full: The vehicle will be full when you collect it and should be returned full to avoid further charges.
A separate deposit will be taken at the start of your rental for this fuel plus a service charge in case you do not return the vehicle with a full tank.
There is a limit on how many kiometres you may travel with this vehicle of 250 km per day.
Fees and Taxes
Local fees and taxes are included in this price.
Note - New Drivers: Like most car rental companies, Goldcar charge a young driver supplement to all drivers aged 24 or less (which we include in any prices shown). Unlike most other companies however, Goldcar also charge a supplement to drivers who are aged 25+ but have not yet had their license for at least 4 years. We are unable to include this in the prices shown on our site; you must pay it at the collection desk and it costs an extra €5.95 per day (max €72).
Admin fees: Please also be aware that many suppliers charge administration fees following damages or for processing fines. For Goldcar you are charged €45 for the processing of any traffic/parking fines and €50 following any accidents.
When collecting the car, the lead and any additional drivers must present their full, valid driver's license. Photocopies are not accepted. Each driver must have had their license for at least 1 year.

You must present a valid credit or debit card in the lead driver's name when you collect the vehicle. Only Visa and Mastercard/Maestro are accepted and only one card may be used. American Express and Diner's Club are not accepted. Check that the card will not expire before the end of your rental.
If you choose to pay with a debit card, the full deposit (including fuel and extras) will be withdrawn from your account at the start of your rental. With credit cards this amount is blocked. In either case, you may not use those funds until after you have returned the vehicle. Your debit card will be needed at the end of your rental in order to receive your refund. The amount refunded is subject to exchange rate variations.
Once your paperwork has been inspected, you will be asked to sign a Rental Agreement. This is a contract between you and the car hire company and contains the terms and conditions for your rental. The agreement may include some location-specific conditions as well as setting out the limitations of any cover you have and the extra costs you may be liable for. You will be given the keys once you and any additional drivers have signed the agreement but don't rush, once you've signed you are legally bound to the terms of that document.
Cross Border Rules
Goldcar allow some travel to other countries but you must purchase an additional "cover" product at the collection desk. The countries that you are allowed to travel to vary depending on which region of Spain you collect your car from as listed here:
- Collections from Madrid, Bilbao, Santander, Santiago or Oviedo:
From these regions you may only travel to the Portuguese provinces of Minho, Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Douro Litoral, Beira Alta, Beira Litoral & Beira Baixa.
- Collections from Gerona, Reus, Bilbao, Santander, Santiago, Oviedo, Barcelona or Pamplona:
Travel is permitted to France and Andorra only
- Collections from Granada, Seville, Malaga, Almeria, Marbella, Jerez or Sancti Petri:
From these regions you may travel to Portugal and Gibraltar
The price for cross-border travel will be €9 per day (min €25, max €90)
For late collections within normal office hours, Goldcar will hold your car for 6 hours after the booked collection time. After 6 hours your vehicle may be given to someone else.
If you are arriving at an airport and are late due to flight delays, Goldcar will keep the office open beyond normal hours but only if a valid flight number has been provided as part of your booking. Even if you have provided a flight number, you are still advised to phone your collection office if your flight is delayed. Without a valid flight number or at any non-airport location, the branch will not remain open past normal hours unless you contact them and make a special arrangement.
Any collection outside normal hours (regardless of reason) will result in an additional Out Of Hours charge or €40.
Insurance and Cover
Included in the price
This product includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) with Theft Protection and Third Party Liability Cover. This means that you are insured for damage to or theft of the vehicle and also against any third party claims.
Additional cover for wheels, glass, bodywork and towing charges is only available when you purchase extra cover. Should there be a claim, you will be liable up to the value of the excess payment unless additional insurance is taken out.
The following parts of the vehicle are not covered by Goldcar's standard insurance: Tyres, Wheels, Rear view and side mirrors, Windows, Hubcaps, Locks, Battery, Motor, Undercarriage and Interior of car, Clutch, Replacement Keys, Damage to oil sump, Catalytic convertor and Radiator. Taxis and towing charges are also not included if the vehicle is towed or replaced. You will not be compensated for any days where the vehicle cannot be used due to repairs
The standard breakdown cover gives a free number to call during office hours only, outside this time you will be charged a service fee (max €30).
Most of these limitations can be removed by purchasing Goldcar's "Super Relax Cover" as part of your booking on our site or at the collection desk.
In any situation, you are not covered for damage or loss as a result of violating the conditions set out in your rental agreement and nor are you covered for personal items stolen, forgotten or lost inside the vehicle.
This vehicle comes with basic cover for theft or damage to the vehicle.
Should there be any damage or theft you will be liable for up to €1100 EUR (inclusive of taxes).
If this is a problem, you can select a vehicle that includes Goldcar's "Super Relax Cover" to reduce your excess (and deposit) to zero. Be aware that you may still be liable if it is deemed that the damage/theft was caused through negligence.
Please pay attention to the procedure for reporting an incident which will be explained in your rental agreement at the collection desk. Failing to follow this procedure could result in you being liable for the full value of the claim.
We sell all Goldcar vehicles on a "Full to Full" fuel policy. The vehicle will be full when you collect (and, if it's not, you should report it before leaving) and returned full at the end of your rental.
You must leave a full deposit for this fuel at the start of your rental to cover both the cost of the fuel and a €50 re-fuelling service charge. This deposit will be fully refunded if you return the vehicle with a full tank. If any fuel is missing, Goldcar will keep some of the deposit to cover the cost of the missing fuel PLUS the €50 refuelling service charge.
If you would prefer not to have to re-fuel prior to returning the vehicle, you can enquire about "Smart Return". With this product you pay up-front for your fuel plus a one-off fee (typically €10-15 depending on the country) to be able to return the vehicle with less than a full tank. With this system you are also refunded for fuel that you do not use.
There is no need to pre-book additional drivers as they can be added at the collection desk.
The cost is typically around €9 per day (to a maximum of 10 days charge) but vary by country. Young drivers (less than 21) will be charged more.
When driving in Spain, any child who is under 12 years old or less than 135cm (4ft 5in) must use a child seat in the rear of the car. Goldcar provides a MaxiCosi (0-13kg), Baby Seat (9-18kg) and/or Booster Seat (15-36kg). All cost €7.95 per day (maximum charge of €96).
GPS units and mobile data hotspots are usually available but GoldCar do not guarantee their availability - this can only be checked at the collection desk. Prices vary by time of year from €4.95 per day in the low season to €7.95 in high season (to a maximum charge of €70/120).
For faster service at the collection desk you may be able to add the Express Service extra to your booking. It is not possible to pay for this once you have arrived at the office - it must be added to your booking.
Delivery and Collection
Goldcar do not offer a vehicle delivery/collection service.
Changes to length of rental
On returning the vehicle you will have a 59 minute grace period for late returns before you will be charged for a whole, additional day's rental PLUS a late return fee of €40. Vehicles may be returned early - there is no extra charge for this but nor will you be refunded for any unused days.
If you wish to extend your rental after you have collected the vehicle, you should contact your return branch at least 24 hours before the end of your rental. You will be required to return to any Goldcar office for a new rental agreement.
It is free to cancel your booking at any time until 48 hours before collecting the vehicle. Once within 48 hours of collection, you will not be able to cancel your booking and any payments made cannot be refunded.
If you wish to make changes to your booking, you will most likely be required to cancel and rebook. There is no cost for cancellations. If you only wish to change your flight or phone number, you can email our customer services team on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Refunds after vehicle collection
The suppler may refuse collection of your vehicle for reasons such as not being fit to drive, missing required identification or not having the correc type of payment card in the lead driver's name with sufficient funds available. In the event of such a refusal, no payments made will be refunded.
The supplier does not offer credit or refunds for early returns of the vehicle.
In the event of "Delayed Charges" (fines, motorway tolls, failing to refuel, extra days, damages, loss and any associated admin charges), your Security Deposit may only be part-refunded.
Unless we indicate a "guaranteed model", vehicles are reserved by class of vehicle and not by make and model. The vehicles displayed are the commonly used models for our partners in your chosen country. If that particular vehicle is not available, the supplier will typically offer another vehicle of the same or higher class at no additional cost.
If you are travelling with disabled passengers, be sure to forward your confirmation email to email@example.com with any special requirements and we will forward these to the supplier for you. We can't offer any guarantees that they will be able to help but we're happy to try. If you're collecting from an airport, providing your flight number will help.
