At a glance
When collecting the vehicle, the lead driver must present the following:
- Valid driver's license
- Passport or National Identity Card
- Credit or debit* card in the lead driver's name (Visa, Mastercard or American Express only)
- Booking confirmation email
- Portuguese Drivers: NIF number
- Non EU Drivers: International Driver's License
* Older debit cards without a CVV number on the rear of the card cannot be accepted.
When collecting your vehicle you will be required to leave a security deposit
on your payment card.
Security Deposit - €200 EUR
All Turisprime vehicles are supplied on a "Full to Full" fuel policy by default which means the vehicle will be given with a full tank of fuel and should be returned full to avoid additonal charges. You will leave a deposit for this fuel when you collect the vehicle; costs vary by vehicle size but are typically between €70 and €125.
Alternatively, you may choose to pre-pay the tank at the collection desk and return the vehicle empty. If you do not pre-pay and still return vehicle with less fuel than it had, you will be charged for the missing fuel PLUS a €25 service fee.
Your mileage is unlimited although vehicles must remain in Portugal and Spain. Travel to Spain is only allowed following written agreement from your collection branch at least 48 hours before collection.
Fees and Taxes
Local fees and taxes are included in this price.
Turisprime charge a €40 administration fee for the processing of any fines or following any damages. The admin fee on damages will not apply if you have taken out Turisprime's ""My Comfort"" cover.
Exit the baggage claim area, and go to Parking 4 (P4). On that park, at the Central Quiosk you will be meet by a Turisprime representative who will take you to the Turisprime Shuttle Bus for a 5-minute journey to the office.
When collecting the car, the lead and any additional drivers must present their full, valid driver's license. Photocopies are not accepted.
Each driver must have had this license for at least 1 year. No Turisprime vehicle may be driven by someone who is less than 19 years old.
If your driver's license is from a country which is outside the EU, you will also require an International Driver's License.
You must present a valid payment card in the lead driver's name when you collect the vehicle. Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards are accepted as is American Express. Check that the card will not expire prior to your return date.
If you choose to pay by debit card, please make sure it has a "CVV" number on the rear. Also be aware that the full security deposit will be withdrawn from your account and will only be refunded when you return the vehicle. This refund process can sometimes take 4-7 days to process.
Once your paperwork has been inspected, you will be asked to sign a Rental Agreement. This is a contract between you and the car hire company and contains the terms and conditions for your rental. The agreement may include some location-specific conditions as well as setting out the limitations of any cover you have and the extra costs you may be liable for. You will be given the keys once you and any additional drivers have signed the agreement but don't rush, once you've signed you are legally bound to the terms of that document.
Cross Border Rules
Turisprime do allow their vehicles to be driven outside Portugal to Spain but only by asking for permission at least 48 hours prior to collection. You will be charged an additional €35 per rental at the collection desk. Ferry travel is not permitted.
If you will be late for collection, Turisprime ask that you contact your collection office direct and advise them of the delay, especially if you will be more than 2 hours late, or risk having your booking cancelled. You can avoid this by contacting them or, for airports, by having provided a valid flight number as part of your booking. Any collection outside normal opening hours will incur an Out Of Hours charge of €30.
Insurance and Cover
Included in the price
This product includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) with Theft Protection and Third Party Liability Cover. This means that you are insured for damage to or theft of the vehicle and also against any claims by third parties (including vehicle occupants).
Turisprime rentals also include "Personal Accident Insurance" (PAI) for death or disablement of the driver or any occupants.
Should there be a claim, you will be liable up to the value of the excess payment unless additional insurance is taken out.
Basic cover does not include windscreens, roof or underside, lost keys/documents or personal possesions. If there is any damage to the vehicle you will also pay an administration charge.
Also be aware that your booking only includes basic roadside assistance so you are liable for callouts and/or towing charges where you are at fault. You can take out extra roadside assistance separately at the collection desk.
This vehicle comes with basic cover for theft or damage to the vehicle.
Should there be any damage or theft you will be liable for up to €1550 (inclusive of taxes).
If you would like to reduce the risk of any large payouts, you can select a vehicle that includes Turisprime's premium cover (known as "My Comfort") to reduce your excess to zero.
Please pay attention to the procedure for reporting an incident which will be explained in your rental agreement at the collection desk. Failing to follow this procedure could result in you being liable for the full value of the claim.
Depending on the supplier, you will typically have two choices when it comes to paying for fuel.
- Full to Full: This is usually the most cost effective option. The vehicle will be fuill when you collect and you must fill it up again just prior to return. If you select this policy and do not re-fill the vehicle, the supplier will charge you for the fuel you have used at a price that is often higher than would be charged at a local service station.
- Pre-paid: This is the most convenient option. You pre-pay your tank of fuel (including a service charge) which means you collect the vehicle full and can return it empty at no extra charge. Note that you will not be refunded for fuel you do not use. Some suppliers give us the "pre-paid" rate where we include this in your price but usually we offer "Full to Full" and you would ask to pre-pay your tank at the collection desk.

There is no need to pre-book additional drivers as they can be added at the collection desk. Each additional driver must show their Passport or National Identity Card and Driver's License. You may not have more than 2 young (19-21) drivers per rental.
The cost is €7 per driver, per day. (Price remains the same for young drivers).
When driving in Portugal, children under 12 years of age and less than 135 cm in height must use an approved child seat which must be secured in the back seat of the vehicle unless the child is less than 3 years old. Turisprime provide child seats for children aged 2+ or booster seats; infant seats are not available.
Turisprime offer separate devices for Sat Nav and Mobile Data Wi-Fi or, if you require both, you will be given their "PTA" device which combines these fundtions (and optionally includes International Calls) and is cheaper than hiring these items separately.
Child seats and any devices you require should be added to your booking to ensure availability.
"Via Verde": Toll roads are common on Portuguese highways, many do not have payment booths and the means of payment are problematic for tourists. We recommend that you ask at the collection desk for the "Via Verde" device to be activated which will allow you to pass straight through the tolls and your credit card will be billed automatically. This will cost you less than €2 per day (max charge of €18.90).
Changes to length of rental
On returning the vehicle you will have a 2 hour grace period for late returns before you will be charged for a whole, additional day's rental at three times the normal daily rate. You must contact the branch if this delay means that you'll be returning out of hours. Vehicles may be returned early - there is no extra charge for this but nor will you be refunded for any unused days.
If you wish to extend your rental after you have collected the vehicle, you may do this on the phone (subject to vehicle availability).
It is free to cancel your booking at any time until 48 hours before collecting the vehicle. Once within 48 hours of collection, you will not be able to cancel your booking and any payments made cannot be refunded.
If you wish to make changes to your booking, you will most likely be required to cancel and rebook. There is no cost for cancellations. If you only wish to change your flight or phone number, you can email our customer services team on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Refunds after vehicle collection
The suppler may refuse collection of your vehicle for reasons such as not being fit to drive, missing required identification or not having the correc type of payment card in the lead driver's name with sufficient funds available. In the event of such a refusal, no payments made will be refunded.
The supplier does not offer credit or refunds for early returns of the vehicle.
In the event of "Delayed Charges" (fines, motorway tolls, failing to refuel, extra days, damages, loss and any associated admin charges), your Security Deposit may only be part-refunded.
Unless we indicate a "guaranteed model", vehicles are reserved by class of vehicle and not by make and model. The vehicles displayed are the commonly used models for our partners in your chosen country. If that particular vehicle is not available, the supplier will typically offer another vehicle of the same or higher class at no additional cost.
If you are travelling with disabled passengers, be sure to forward your confirmation email to email@example.com with any special requirements and we will forward these to the supplier for you. We can't offer any guarantees that they will be able to help but we're happy to try. If you're collecting from an airport, providing your flight number will help.
