If you’re using a debit card the amount is taken from your account. When you return the car without any damage the excess is refunded.
You should always ensure the excess amount either by purchasing Essential Cove or Premium Cover on our website or through an alternative 3rd party provider. If you fail to insure the excess the amount you could be liable to pay the full excess amount and have no way to claim it back.
If you purchase Essential Cover, the amount for any damages will be held by the car rental company and the balance of the excess will be refunded. You can then claim back the amount retained by the car rental company through your Essential Cover Policy. Always be sure to retain any paperwork and repair estimates provided by the car rental company. Also take photographs of any damage to the car. Premium Cover reduces the excess amount (often to zero) which significantly reduces the security deposit amount held on your card when you collect the car.
